NEWSLETTER 21 FEBRUARY 2025

Todd_Nichole.jpg

This week had several visitors to our school to support the teaching and learning program implemented by our teaching staff. Firefighter Craig worked with students to help raise their awareness of fire safety. It was wonderful to hear that our students were very respectful and engaged in their fire safety lessons. During PE lessons students had visitors from AFL Tas working with them on improving general ball skills and game awareness skills. Our students enjoyed their lessons and were very well behaved, listening to our visitors and taking onboard tips given to improve skills. We are very fortunate to have many visitors come to our school and work with our students through out the year on a wide variety of sports.

Thank you to our parent community for waiting for school hats and tops to arrive at the office. We had a lot of stock this year on book sales day, however we sold the majority of our stock and therefore had to order more. If you need items of school uniform, please see the friendly office staff who will be happy to assist you.

This week a number of our staff attended professional learning at the Paranaple Centre to further their learning in supporting students to increase their reading skills. Once again, Reading is a key focus of our School Improvement Plan. This is the case in all government schools. Our staff work very hard to support students increase their reading. It would be wonderful if at home parents/carers were able to find a few minutes each day to listen to their child read, or read to their child.

The School Fire Education Program is an initiative of the Tasmania Fire Service, as a strategy towards our vision of a Tasmanian community that is safe from the impact of fire.

The program has been designed to teach children from Prep to Grade 6 about basic home fire safety.

The program is offered to all Tasmanian primary schools, and more than 95% of Tasmanian children participate in the program at least twice during their primary school education.

Lessons and resources are delivered in schools by specially trained firefighters of the Tasmania Fire Service.

The key home fire safety messages are developed over the primary school years so that they are age-appropriate and engaging for students. Home fire safety resources are given out to children in class, and we encourage them to share the home fire safety messages with their family.

This advice is designed to keep you and your family safe and protect what you value.

COURAGE - accepting challenges and embracing opportunities.

This fortnight we have the School Value of Courage as our focus, we discuss in individual class groups and across the school as a whole, both students and staff.

Each fortnight this Term we will let you know what our focus is, you may wish to discuss this with your child/ren at home.

Bucket_Hat.jpg

To stay sun-safe students must wear a hat when they are outside during Terms 1 & 4.

Hats are available from the school office for $17.00.

School Bookpack bags are great for when our Water Safety programs begin.
The perfect size for a towel and dry clothes.
Don’t throw them away, pop them away in a safe spot for later in the year.

BAGS.jpg

We can’t stress the amount of items that sadly make there way to our lost property.
Jackets, drink bottles, lunch boxes that aren’t named are very hard to make there way back to the correct student.

Please ensure you label all your child/rens items in readiness for school.

DECYP & DPS School Values

Our values represent the foundation of our Department’s culture
and must guide us in all that we do.
They have been decided by us, and we are all responsible
for embedding them in our ways of working.

Connection – building positive relationships and a sense of belonging.

Courage – accepting challenges and embracing opportunities.

Growth – aspiring to learn, and improving, even when it’s hard.

Respect – caring for ourselves, each other, and our environment.

Responsibility – stepping up and doing what’s right.
